Portfolio Effectiveness

I love helping the leaders of technology portfolios make sense of their world, streamline portfolio operations, simplify the overall model, and chart their path from friction to flow.

    The Portfolio Orientation Workshop series creates the foundation for reconnecting work and value, creating visibility into the most important work, balancing your aspirations against your obligations, and starting to untangle the dependencies that are holding you back.

  • This three-day course teaches portfolio operational leaders and enterprise change agents to shape effective product portfolios. Currently offered as an enterprise private cohort, participants will learn how to navigate portfolio change, create effective multi-maps, and select the right shifts to mitigate your specific portfolio challenges.

  • Simplifying and transforming portfolio funding models is both necessary for advancing and loaded with risks and resistance. I serve as an advisor and guide using my experiences across many companies and industries to help you avoid the pitfalls and navigate the many-siloed swirl.

  • I provide structured mentoring programs and ad hoc executive coaching to support portfolio leadership through times of change, growth, and transition for their portfolios.

    Leaders find this especially helpful when taking on new roles or when enterprise transformations are changing their responsibilities in significant ways.

Teams of Teams

Capturing the effectiveness of a great cross-functional team across many teams is the core competency of scaling agility.

  • A workshop series to help you identify the most impactful shifts to remove friction, increase flow, and create happier employees, stakeholders, and customers for a single team of team or ART. The workshop series will help you with multi-mapping the ART, reorienting on the most important products and work, identifying the most effective team topology, and building a tactical improvement roadmap.

  • An effective leadership team shapes an effective ART. This intentional coaching program supports the “leadership triad” for the ART (which is often 4-6 people) in becoming a high-performing team themselves.

  • I provide structured mentoring programs and ad hoc coaching to support ART leadership (both triad roles and people leaders) through times of change, growth, and transition for their ARTs.

    Leaders find this especially helpful when taking on new roles or when product pivots or enterprise transformations are changing their responsibilities in significant ways.

Leadership Development

Helping individual leaders amplify their impact and take on bigger challenges.

  • A renewable 13-week formal mentoring program for executives and middle managers. Weekly and bi-weekly formats are available based on the desired growth intensity.

    I support two engagement models: a private direct engagement with the mentee, and a company-sponsored growth program. The latter program incorporates goalsetting and impact assessments with the mentee’s supervisor.

  • A thinking partner for the moments that matter most. This program provides on-demand coaching as needed, frequently available same or next day.

  • Bespoke advisory relationships providing consistent, on-demand support on your schedule. These relationships are especially valuable for executives stepping into new roles that need a trusted external thinking partner. The relationship is generally renewed quarterly.

  • Newly-formed and recently disrupted leadership teams benefit from an intentional offset to realign on the group’s aspirations, obligations, challenges, and habits. These sessions help new teams build trust and alignment in an accelerated timeframe.

Enterprise Agility & SAFe Adoption

I find sharing my experience as a LACE and transformation leader to be quite rewarding, and love seeing the leaders I coach succeed. I have the expertise to guide your adaptation of SAFe for your enterprise, as demonstrated by being a SAFe Fellow, SPCT, and past principal contributor to the framework.

  • I find enterprise agility coaches benefit immensely from having experienced outside counsel. I provide my mentoring and coaching programs to these individuals, as well as partnering on highly challenging situations when needed.

  • I provide review enterprise transformation plans for effectiveness, blind spots, and unexpected pitfalls. Several depths of assessment and planning support are available depending on needs.

  • I have customized my formal mentoring program to explicitly address the concerns of LACE and Enterprise Agility leaders by integrating my experience leading enterprise transformations and heading up LACEs.

  • I provide expert instruction on the full range of SAFe courseware, although I have the greatest impact leading the advanced courses (APM, Arch, RTE, ASPC, Implementing) and adapting Leading SAFe to suit executive audiences.

    My expertise in the courses stems from both extensive teaching and from helping to create most of them as either a reviewer or as lead SME.
